'We Couldn't Install Windows 10' Error 0x80070002 - 0x20009 During Upgrade

Windows 10 is still in evaluation stages and you have to upgrade your system regularly to be on the current build, the one with bug fixes and added features. What current build does better is usually in the area of stability and preventing problems that have been forestalled in previous ones from emanating. Due to the changes made to prior errors you are likely not  to encounter them again thereby having a better operating system to work with.

At some point you might experience error when upgrading to current build and that is when step to find solution is necessary. When error code 0x80070002 - 0x20009 appears while trying to do the installation there is a chance of issue with system file corruption  or simply other system file issues. To troubleshoot the error required careful understanding of  why it happened in the first case. Your system would likely roll back to previous build to prevent accidental BSOD(Blue Screen Of death) from occurring.

There is a workaround in getting back to installing the latest released build error code 0x80070002 - 0x20009 by following the instruction below.

STEP 1: Click on 'File Explorer' pinned to your taskbar to open it or Type or copy and paste 'File Explore' into 'Search Windows'(Cortana) and select it from the top list.

STEP 2: Click on 'This PC' to continue.

STEP 3: Next click on 'Local Drive(C)' to open it.

STEP 4: Look for 'Windows' directory or folder and click on it.

STEP 5: Search carefully for 'SoftwareDistribution' folder and click on it.

STEP 6: Select all the files in the 'SoftwareDistribution' folder and right click on them. Select 'Delete' from the context menu to remove them.

STEP 7: Click on 'Start' and next on 'Settings' to continue.


Update & Security at Settings

STEP 8: Click on 'Update & Security' to open it.

STEP 9: Next click on 'Check for updates' button. It will repopulate the files delete from 'SoftwareDistribution' folder later.

STEP 10: After completely downloading updates click on 'Install' button to continue.
